1940 S LWC Die Cud Or Crack?

You have a coin struck with a cracked die.
The be a Cud the cracked piece of the die has to have fallen off and is no longer available to strike a coin, hence a blob on the coin where the die used to be.

The 1940-S cents are notorious for die cracks and Retained Cuds. They are definitely a pleasure to search for errors and for varieties. Your coin is a wonderful find and a definite keeper.

The San Francisco mint had fairly low mintages of cents throughout the wheat series. During the depression, San Francisco mintages peaked in 1939 at 52 million after a few years in the 30s millions and several years before that with little or no production. In 1940, however, production demands abruptly more than doubled (almost 113 million), and they extended die life to the point of die failure and beyond to meet production goals.

I had read about the low mintages also. I also have 39d and s wheat cents

Are there known examples of Retained Cuds on 1940-S LWC that may be a post version of this coin, or was this die changed before it reached that stage ?
