Has anyone seen this error before? Is it common? Or not an error at all? There is an extra thin ray between the 4th and 5th rays clockwise. Any info would be great! Thanks Stephen

Probably a die crack or gouge - not an error.

Die cracks, die gouges, and die dents ARE considered "die errors" by some and "die varieties" by others.

I have seen die clashes on Presidential dollars in that general area. Look at the obverse to see if part of the head lines up with it. If it does, then it is a die clash caused by the two dies striking each other without a coin blank between them. Die clashes are generally relatively common but it seems like anything "different" with a Pres dollar attracts attention.

Hi, I was thinking about evidence of a die clash as well so I will throw that thought out there too. I can't tell from the picture if that is the case here but it could be a possibility.
Thanks, Bill

Seems like an overlay would help with one? Guess what? I thought it appeared to be too straight to be anything else, but matches part of the obverse design. Seems like more devices would have made contact?

Coop, that is cool how did you do that? I tried to do what biokemist6 suggested but I am new to this and your graphic really helps. So its probably a die clash?

Photoshop and many years of experience. Its just something I like to do and everyone enjoys see it how it can educate them on how the process of clashing happens. There is a workshow in the coppercoins.com/ in the Photography section that I share a few of my tricks. You might check it out there? http://www.coppercoins.com/forum/vi...rum.php?f=20
