Sap Moderator Australia 16850 Posts	Posted 07/17/2019 8:49 pm The mirrored fields of proof aluminiun-bronze coins often have a "black" appearance, compared to a normal circulating coin of the same design. Here's a circulated proof Austrlaian $1 aluminium-bronze coin I found in change many years ago: I rmemeber when I saw it, my first thought was "Why is that coin all black?". It wasn't black - just mirrored proof. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. tdziemia Pillar of the Community United States 7959 Posts	Posted 07/17/2019 10:37 pm The pair of 1970 Austrian proofs I have are very low on the cameo/frosting compared to @Sap and have a bit more uniform appearance as in the photo. The surface color is certainly darker than a normal strike in Al-Br, which is usually closer to gold in my experience (but I guess can also depend on the specific composition of the alloy).
