Condor101 - well put! joecoin - I too agree the Breen Encyclopedia is still a good reference and finding them isn't getting easier, but with all the fantastic new reference books hitting the market in the past 20 years it has remained a bargain, I just bought another copy of $35.00 last week, bargains are still out there. My latest copy I got as I seemed to have misplaced my old copy and the new one is in great shape with the binding still holding up.
Buy and read books, it's not only the intelligent thing to do it enriches your knowledge and therefore makes you a smarter buyer and collector. (see my tag line here).
Finding pricing is best done by researching recent auction results or websites/dealers selling varieties, like Rick Snow and Charmy "the penny lady" Harker for
Indian Head cents, Jack Beymer for early american coins, James Wiles for
Lincoln Cent varieties, etc. there really hasn't been an all-in-one price guide since the late JT Stanton put out his "pink sheet" Cherrypickers pricing guides in the early 90's.
