Looks like a little swimmer to me Die crack or break?

Oddly, it seems to be raised up off of the letter D too. That doesn't sound like a die crack to me, but rather a damaged die.

Ok well those new pics make this look a whole lot more like damage to me. Yes the metal has been smushed up about the surface, but only because it was dug out.

@baldee, we often associate this sort of crenulated pattern with the rim of another reeded edge coin impacting the surface. That would be my working explanation unless someone else has a better idea.
