I have checked coins that are extremely close to the pics but not exact. Also, if the MM is on the reverse, it couldn't be exact every time could it?

Markers are on a coin to ID a certain die. But not all markers maybe present on each coin, unless there is an event that happened early on the dies life. Die scratches: These fad quicker on the open field areas. Next to devices they last a lot longer. In the center of a device, they last the longest. Some die events happen early or later on the dies life span. So they may nor may not be visble. They can confirm a certain die state. But some markers can happen on several coins if the die events are the same. Example: On the Memorial cents, the 12 column on some years of coins having a die crack can be common. So you need to look at the area in question to see if the same area is affected, or if it is common that year. Die cracks: They last the longest on a die. But they do get worse with continued use of the die. They can spread, chip, break or even from edge to edge on the die. Hope this helps.

My thinking the short answer is not always. Die scratches or pup's can vary with the dies state or age. Mint mark location might sometimes vary as well. Note: the die pairings may or may not be married for life. One die (or both) maybe pulled at any point and touched up, then the dies may get paired up again or paired with another die or dies during the production run(s) or the dies life cycles. Thanks, Doug.
