*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***After what 37 years of looking closely at every 1982 D
LMC that happened to be in my possesion, I happened to be doing some electrical work in a paint studio and found this 1982 D 1 cent. I wrapped it in a tissue put it in my pocket and finished my work, Upon using my loop for a close look I saw the strong doubling on IGWT and checked the date MM and Liberty then the reverse. For the briefest of moments I was excited, until I noticed the corrosion around the rim on both sides...dreadfully someone had ground the rim to encase the coin, and exposed the zinc core. It more than likely began corroding after being encased and became very unattractive. It still urks me that anyone would do such a thing. If that wasn't enough this sad coin must have went back into circulation (it's quite worn) before ending lying on the floor getting paint spilled on it and collecting dust. Still though (at one time) it was a fine example of this mint error showing strong doubling on the obverse and thickened lettering and remnants of spreads on the reverse lettering. I'll keep it as a reminder of how moronic us humans can be, and that hey I found it!! It may be nothing more than a conversation piece... but they're still out there and I'll keep looking.
