I agree with B-12 no higher than a VF-30, probly closer to a VF-25.

That's hard to say. Personally, I like the V-Nickel series and have an 1883 No Cents. They are a hard coin to scan accurately. Mine has AU-MS Details...but that is a personal opinion. I would give a higher than VF-30 grade though.

In hand it seem to have all the details, this series is lightly struck?

I would go as high as EF40 on this coin. This series is notorious for lightly struck hairlines between the brow and ear. I believe the bun and area above the ear to be legitimate wear and there is light wear evident on the reverse.

According to the ANA Grading Book, the 1883 NC is indeed usually weakly struck. The first wear points are the brow hair above the eye, top of the ear, and the right ear of corn on the reverse. I would grade it EF-40 provided there is still 1/2 corn kernel detail on the reverse. I believe the obverse stars lack detail from a weak strike.

Hi Shatsi

Any way we could get pics with the coin out of the 2x2 ?

I still see this coin as a VF-30 or slightly below. Even with the weak strike the reverse detail cannot come above that level.

I would like to change my opinion !

Still think it's an EF40 and that is a nice die crack through the date!
