You mean what it is? Its a Shield nickel without rays. I would say EF but then I'm new at this, lets see what others say.

The coin looks to me to be very close to UNC details to me.

Im a little concerned about the dark areas ! If these areas have corrosion or pitting , then the grade would be significantly reduced.

You might be right Rick, just thought 'IN' and the date was not clear. I thought the brown was dirt sort of.

Its very hard to tell from the pictures. It looks like it could have AU to UNC details, but it seems to have a granular surface to include some pitting. This may reduce the grade to a net VF or less. Just a humble opinion..

It looks to have AU details to me. There is a small area on the shield that shows very light wear and some of the leaves on the reverse show very light wear on the highest points. Most of the stars show nice definition, though these coins are known for lack of detail in the stars even on some UNC examples. The roughened surface would lower the net grade however. My opinion is net EF40.
