I bought this recently, and wasn't pleased with the cleaning in the right obverse field, but I have decided it might be worth keeping since I picked it up cheap. The 'scratches' on the reverse are barely visible in hand and just seem like bagmarks. My assessment was that the obverse was a very weak strike with the reverse having much better detail, so I gave it a net grade. Here's the coin:

There's no rim ding, that's just lint from the 2x2 I think. Surprised you said EF 45 though.
Edit: Do you mean at 11 o' clock? I see that now...looks pretty minor in person. Can't examine it properly without removing the coin from the 2x2 and I don't want to do that.

I'd grade this VF-30.
I think it needs more obverse gown detail and reverse shield and feather detail for EF.
Nice 'No Drapery' quarter!

I paid $125 for this. If big O is really worth a lot more than small O, I'd be very pleased.

Okay, there are 22 examples known (as of 1995) of the large O, so I highly doubt that it is.

I'm no expert in this series, but I think the Large/Small O issue is for the "With Drapery" variety. This is a "No Drapery."

Yeah, looks like you're right, Bilbo. However, I can't be 100% sure cause I just briefly checked.

Perhaps this coin was one of the "New Orleans Hoard."

If I'm not mistaken many years ago at a construction site in New Orleans, La., a chest full of early New Orleans (O) quarters and halves was hit with a back-hoe or front end loader... The chest cracked open and there was a MOB of people grabbing and taking the coins.
You can find out more if you GOOGLE "New Orleans Hoard."
Take Care Ben

My judgment was close to vermont and bilbo's. I graded the obverse VF25, reverse XF, net VF 30.
