Flashback makes it difficult to evaluate this coin.

The coin has been polished. (Which pretty much removes the value to this coin) But it may have been a doubled die. I need to check around to see if there was a DDO that year. While it looks interesting, I need more information and will get back on this one.

I found a boatload of wheats the exact same way, widened, rounded devises, extremely bright in color, rounded tops of the rims and the only thing I could attribute it to was it spent time in a dryer or like coop said, polishing. It is not a mint error.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but the dates on the indian series were all hand punched on the individual working dies. I think I have a RPD 1907 floating around somewhere. This would mean that there would be no doubled dies affecting the date , only Repunched numerals.

It's one of my 1908's from the historical one cent collection. I don't know if that changes it? As far as I know It has never been circulated or even opened until I just opened it to look at it.

Not uncirculated. It's has seen circulation for sure. Someone polished your coin down, causing it to have this dull appearance to it. It's a cull coin now and it's unfortunately not worth much.

That stinks. What is the point of getting an uncirculated set for then? I have had it for a years and the set didn't appear to be opened. Thank you for the information I had no idea. I greatly appreciate you.

Quote: What is the point of getting an uncirculated set for then? I have had it for a years and the set didn't appear to be opened The mint didn't sell uncirculated sets in 1908 so you set HAD to be a privately put together set, and these used circulated polished coins. Quote: ...dates on the indian series were all hand punched on the individual working dies? As far as I know, Yes. This was the time period when they were starting to switch over to having the dates in the master hub, but I believe the changeover occurred on each denomination when the design changed. Eagle and Double Eagle in 1907 (Saint-Gaudens only), Quarter and Half Eagle in 1908, cent in 1909 (hand punch for indian master hub for Lincoln) etc.
