I have this 1920 Mercury dime that has a die crack on the obverse, starting at the wing cap and extending to the rim. The things is, the die crack is similar to and in the same area as the ones I have seen on the 1920-D Mercury dimes, but I haven't been able to find information on die cracks in that area for the Philadelphia Mercury dimes. Has anyone else seen such?

There is a similar die crack on a 1920-D listed at http://cuds-on-coins.com/mercury-di...s-1916-1945/ Worth sending the photos to them, for a new listing to be cataloged IMO. It's a pretty drastic die crack with a small Cud, chipping out at the winged area.

Thank you, WC! I have seen several die cracks in that area on 1920-D Mercury dimes, but it is the first time I see it on a plain 1920 dime. I did send the photos to Cuds On Coins to see if it can be added to the database. Thanks again.

Great find and an interesting coin! Both the obverse and reverse dies are at least late die state. Note the Die Deterioration Doubling on the portrait and "LIB" of LIBERTY.

I find it interesting that the "R" in LIBERTY and wing tip appear to have a stronger strike than the remaining portions of the obverse. To me, this suggests movement at the break, possibly indicating that this die was very close to failure. If so, your coin may be a very late stage of this crack.

Nice observation, FC. The detail on the wing tips and the R is very strong, which I clearly see when holding the coin. I appreciate the input.

The die crack on this coin has been listed in the Cuds on Coins website as SKH-10c-1920-01.

Cool, I have a few 2 centers I need to get photographed and sent in to them, I am waiting on a new mounting plate to arrive as my new camera won't fit on the mount I have with the bellows attachment I have, should have it in by next week. Hate not being able to shoot close ups right now, as I have a bunch of free time to do photography right now. DOH!

You will no doubt be shooting some fine photos of those coins. I'm sure Cud On Coins would love to have them as addition to their database. Such sites are a great reference resource for sure. I love the 2-Cent pieces. Unfortunately, the ones I have found over the years have not held up well while in the ground, though there have been a few exceptions.
