I am debating with my brother about these 2 coins found in a collection owned by our grandfather. My grandfather collected error coins, but I'm not so sure this is one. My brother thinks it is some type of error, but I disagree. Any thoughts? I am posting 2 coins of the same year, both different.

Yes. This appears to be Machine Doubling. It's an error, but a very common one.

Both have the MD in the same direction, also altering the mintmark.

The mint mark look to be slightly rotated to me, but I don't think it far enough for it to be valuable. Normally the southeast curve would be closest to the rim, the center of the curve is on this one.

Just noticed also the devices are not as tall as usual, probably because of a heavy/multiple die polishing. The die is getting pretty close to retirement. Even after previous polishing, the flow lines are coming back again.
