Is there a reason PGCS would grade a coin 2 points lower than it should?
1st off I am no expert at any coin grading or collecting, however I have this 82 and micro scoped it and it did not have any scratches, perfect impression stamp frt & bak, high mint luster on both the obv and rev. Highly glossy, The perfect coin. I expected a MS67 or 68, I was really disappointed with the MS64 grade. It's in a holder now, so it would be hard to take picts of. I am just disappointed and feel the PGCS has let me down. This should have been graded higher in any event. I don't trust them now. I have hundreds of 70's, 80's and 90's bu coins. A coin hoarder from the 80's gave me all these and they are uncirculated. I guess I'll try NGC next. Thanks for letting me vent.

Definitely post here first and ask our graders what they think the coin might be labeled as by a grading company.

Unfortunately the prolific numbers of slabs on ebay etc. has led to people not well versed in the hobby think grading is an absolute science. The websites of the companies themselves tell you grading is an art and the grades are very subjective.

Hence a coin broken out of a slab and resubmitted, though not altered at all, is never even guaranteed the same grade again. Plus the graders from one company do not grade the same as other companies.

Experience collectors who like slabs collect them for what they are while being aware of these facts. You are just getting your first experience understanding the reality of the situation and were smart for coming here to ask for more info.

You will see CCF is known for saying, "Buy the coin and not the slab!"

Heck, you could have a 66 & not break even. A 68 just sold, bayside,

and it went for 999. and change.

68s don't get graded as a 64. Ownership always adds some points.

It's not trying to get started on anything, it's a bit of initial tough love to help out later. Saying I can't trust the TPG anymore because they graded what they though was a 67/68 a 64 means they aren't yet in the right mindset to improve their grading skills. When it's that far off the question should be where was I wrong, not I can't trust them.

Please post some pictures! It must be down on eye appeal, that's the #1 factor with the TPGS, followed by luster and then imperfections.

basebal - We don't even have evidence of this alleged injustice! What does "ownership always adds some points" even mean?

A gap that wide is enough to not really need them in all honesty.

That the owners/submitters of coins over grade them because they are theirs.

Basically if you grade your own coin vs someone else's you grade your own higher because it's yours

Hi, I took some pics of the 82, but the holder just doesn't do it justice, I have a 1992-D in the same grade. What do you folks think is the grade for this 1992-D. It has full luster red, all the steps show on the back, its not scratched anywhere. The edges are sharp. Sorry have to work tomorrow early, so Ill ck back in the afternoon.

1992D - 65/66RD or so, hard to tell with the given pictures.
