Well, in 1909, a lot of the pennies had VDB on the reverse of the coin, but only for that year. After that, I'm not sure when they added it to the obverse. But there are zero errors to look for or that are worth anything as far as the VDB goes.
The V.D.B. Was only on the reverse for a short time in 1909, then was stopped. Then appeared on the edge of the bust in 1918, and is still there for owner 101 years. It is incuse there (raised in the die and sometimes polished off the die during die polishing. It is part of the design, so it is not forgotten) because it is raised, even Machine Doubling can make it look doubled. But because of its size, it is often not noticed when missing or MD.
