I was being stupid and bought a $30 Coin Grab Bag thing. I bought it because it was rated 1# Best Coin Seller Item on ebay. I ended up receiving a terrible packaged coin lot thing. All cents were wheat cents, the uncirculated coins were not graded, and were just 1960 D cents, two buffalo and V nickels, worth maybe 50 cents each. My only silver coins were two Mercury dimes in terrible condition. The gold vial was broken and gold flakes were everywhere and I received no gemstones. I got scammed badly and maybe made $10 tops, I'm returning the item. Overall, I've learned never to buy from that seller, and no more grab bags, to just make sure to know exactly what you're buying. I'm quite angry right now, but here's the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/OLD-US-MIX....m2749.l2649https://www.ebay.com/usr/tallone205....m2749.l2754

I can understand your frustration. Many have learnt the hard way to avoid "junk drawer lots" "unsearched rolls" and "grab bags" 99% chance you will not get your money's worth. Remember the good old "if its too good to be true...."

Thank you, lesson learned. Guess it's apart of coin collecting to experience things first hand and learn from those mistakes.

Amazingly, people still fall for this crap inspite of the red flags waving all over the place.
Leave proper feedback to warn others, chalk it up to a learning experience, then move on.

The strange thing is this person sold over 1000 of that specific product. There was only two single reviews that were negative, and one was mine. There was no red flags, I knew that there was a large chance I would not break even, but I didn't think it would be that bad. I've heard that you can actually pay ebay to rate you positively. Again, there wasn't a SINGLE red flag.

Pictures of giant piles of coins should almost always be your first reason to run.
This type of seller will build up positives with shill bidders and actually decent deals, then begin sluffing the chaff.
Once negatives slows sales, they cancel connection and they or their friends start another run with a new name.

That's very interesting mox, thanks for telling me. I'm starting to notice that, as the seller is slowly raising the prices. Thank you for the information, my stupid mistake won't happen again.

Here's another tip. When you mentioned Quote:I bought it because it was rated 1# Best Coin Seller Item on ebay. I was curious, because that didn't seem like something that would be advertised by ebay. When you look at the actual listing itself, where they have Quote: #1 BEST SELLING COIN LOT OFFERED! BUY NOW WHILE STOCKED That is something anyone could write in any listing. It is not ebay saying that, nor anyone except for the seller themselves stating that.

Quote: I got scammed badly and maybe made $10 tops, Did you get scammed badly, or did you make $10?

Both I suppose, as a lot of the items they guaranteed were missing, and I made $10, as in out of all the items I got, them together are worth $10. In reality, I'm -$20 And I suppose I wasn't paying attention, I thought ebay wrote that it was #1, I failed to analyze the product carefully before buying it, I'm disappointed in not only the product, but myself.

Silvercents... He may have had only a couple of Negative Feedbacks but if you took the time to actually read a few pages of ALL of his Feedback you'll find incidents of people leaving positive feedback ratings with NEGATIVE comments. Those people were trying to tell YOU (and others) that you probably are about to get your clock cleaned. Anytime I buy anything on ebay I read recent feedback and do not rely solely on "numbers". 99.7% positive Feedback don't mean diddly squat in my opinion.

You are a victim of your own greed. Hoping to find something worth while and make a killing and rip off the seller. Serves you right. There are collectors out there who probably were delighted with their lot. And you are going to send it back!!!.. Do the right thing and suck it up.

The right thing? Excuse me? Yes I understand it was my own stupidity that ended up with me loosing money alright? I understand that I failed when it came to actually looking into it carefully. It's a learning experience but you listen to me airgem. A lot of the people bought them fell into the same trap as me. Don't you dare call me greedy, I did not want to try to benefit off of him, I wanted to break even and maybe get a few coins that were worth something, or a couple key dates, instead the seller did the reverse to me, except he got more than breaking even. Don't you ever speak to me like that, ever...
I made this topic to warn others, instead I learned something of my own, and I'm happy with that.
I DID NOT make this topic for you to insult and disrespect me. If you want to be rude to me, then get off this forum and don't return. It's meant for a place for people to bond and share their interests with others. It's a place for a community, a place for sharing knowledge.
If you wish to stay here and not be rude then good for you, I welcome you here, if not, then this isn't a place for you.

I'd say I agree somewhat with both sides here - buying grab bag "mystery" lots such as that, is typically out of a mixture of ignorance and greed. No reason for the outright hostility, just is an observation. My recommendation to SilverCents would be to ask for second opinions before making ebay purchases in the future.

Fair enough llewellin, fair enough. I will restate this, I need not buy it to make money. I've had experience with grab bags, not coin grab bags. I know that the ones I bought were fun, they were enjoyable. I bought this for enjoyment. Sure, I could've lost a bit of money and I would've been fine with that, but the amount I lost was large, but oh well. Again, I bought this for my enjoyment, as it's fun to open these things, usually. Ignorance? Yes, I can see that, but not greed. I will certainly keep in mind to ask second opinions when it comes to buying coins off of ebay, that is, until I gain more knowledge with ebay coin purchases.
