@JP, in looking at the letter A in DOLLAR, it is possible that the die had a broken post which means that this coin was struck with the center part of this letter filled in. More likely though is that circulation wear has flattened the letters somewhat causing the triangular recess to be filled in with "smushed" metal.

I would have thought the Uni in United namely the i. I also thought a was filled. My reasoning came bc of how spontaneous the bad parts were. Like the front seems fine
but the back has one area that is noticeably bad and the next fine. Please help me lol. I am desperate to learn this. My late father had given me a few coins prior to his passing. He passed young and was a very poor man in the 48 years he lived. But anyways one thing he held onto was a small leather bag that had 9 coins in it. When we found out he was on his was out he gave me the bag and apologized bc he had nothing else to give me. ... 2 years later I was robbed and very badly assaulted by an individual and one thing that was taken was that bag. Sorry for the lengthy post but from that moment on I have looked for the coins he had given me and grew an interest in the error thing, just not exactly good at it.

Must agree. The disturbance in the U area looks like flattening from circulation.
