Hello, While going through my collection of foreign banknotes I found a 10 shilling Australian short snorter with one legible signature: I thought it would be a nice gesture to try to find descendants of the soldier and offer to give them the bill as a memento. The problem is I can't seem to find any information about the man. The bill was signed on November 1944 in New Guinea so I assume the man was an American although I suppose he might have been a member of another Allied army. Any suggestions? BTW the man's name was James F. Laverty.

@rm8780, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm going to recommend to the mods that your thread be moved to the area that generally deals with world banknotes and paper money so that we can get the right eyes on your questions.

Captain James Franklin Laverty was a Flight Officer with the 372nd Bomb Squadron that was on New Guinea in 1944. Ancestry.com records show that he died in 1980. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. None of the Ancestry.com family trees show him with any descendants.

I'm still not very familiar with the forum so I'm not sure if I can reply directly to someone's post. I'm also trying to figure out how to post a picture as there are other signatures that someone might be able to decipher-I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out eventually. As for Captain James Franklin Laverty of the 372nd Bomb Squadron, he certainly seems to fit the bill (no pun intended) but thanks very much for the help! A pity he doesn't seem to have any descendants.

The other names on the note may confirm that the signatures are members of 372nd BS.
