Hi all, new user here. Found this token while metal detecting in the woods of western pennsylvania. Anyone know anything about it? It is about the size of a quarter and the back is blank.

@PDD, that is interesting piece that you found. From your picture, it looks like steel. Is it attracted to a magnet?

If it is magnetic, it might be an in/out tag or tool check tag from manufacturing plants or mines. the ones with out holes were placed on a magnetic board or strip to mark who was in the mine and who was out, or plant or who had what tool out. they were generally used for ID's of who was where if the was an accident. The slang term for them was body tags. Given the location were found it could be from a mill, foundry or migrated form coal regions.

Circus provided an excellent narrative on the possible uses for your token. Might we see the reverse to? If it's flat it would help substantiate that opinion.

With a hole in the tag and a nail in the board It is the general rule cheaper, But back in the day some of the bosses had better ideas.

Hi all, I checked and it is not magnetic. The back is plain and looks roughly the same color and texture as the front.
