Hello all,

I was looking through my wheat pennies and found this. Does anyone know how this happened?

Thanks!

To CCF! Not an error coin. Just Post Strike Damage ( PSD). It's a cull coin now.

It is damaged. It is a cull coin, but you can add it to your Wheat penny stash.

What do the "Rams", if that's what they are called, look like without a die? I have a few coins that look identical to this in the same place on the obverse side but different years. Coincidence? Or a bored fella, serial coin Mauler, with a hammer and a washer? and if I am not mistaken if you look in the mint errors there are similar markings like that on coins from punches. if I'm wrong somebody please correct me instead of saying somebody has a hammer in the washer just beating on coins. Has anybody ever tried that? Pretty tough!

Coincidence?

I suspect so, but please start a new thread with pics of them so that we can take a look. It would be odd to have such similar types of damage, but certainly not impossible.

to the CCF! Doesn't look like a strike through. This is PMD.

Over the years I've come across similarly 'punched' Lincoln cents--all wheat cents. None perfectly identical, but clearly punched post-mint. Any number of ways this can happen--a bored teenager in a 1950s high school auto shop class comes to mind. "Hey Tony, watch this..."

In my humble opinion, I think it's just damage

It took me awhile because I didn't have this marked separately. It was in my "Oddities" because at that time I didn't know what to make of it until I saw one like it, which read "Mint Error"....
