I had to sadly put down my cat today. He was only 12 years old. My mom was on vacation for a week, and he was still eating and drinking water. Then he started to decline two days ago, shortly after my mom got back home from vacation. After we got home from Church, he was in very rough shape. He could hardly breath. We took him to a vet, and they said he had a bad respiratory infection that was in his nose, and then spread to his lungs. He was also in the stages of kidney failure too. He lost almost half of his body weight (6 pounds. Used to weigh 14, but weighed 8 pounds). The nurse also said that he might have had cancer too, since he had a lump on his neck (wasn't 100% sure though), since he was a kitten. It was weird though, because he was weak, but had a lot of energy and fight in him left, when he was on the table, in the vet. He actually jumped down from the counter onto the floor, like it didn't hurt him. Then he also jumped on the counter again, except stepping on the keyboard, by accident. He was very loving still. I prayed on him and said my final goodbyes to him (my family was there too), before being put down peacefully. I will miss Tiki a lot! You were such a great cat.

I happen to love anything with fur or hair (even most people ) includes dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and even high class pet rats. Just a critter lover, I suppose.

Nevertheless, loosing one of the family is always a very sad, tough call. Comes most often with a liberal dose of grief.

I know. I can empathize.

E&V...

I feel your pain and know EXACTLY how you and your family feel. I went through this exact thing about 6 weeks ago with my 17 old tuxedo cat Sylvester. I still miss him everyday!

My heart goes out to y'all!

Oh, such a beautiful cat. I know that pain as well. I had to give away my golden retriever/black labrador mix after having her for over 10 years, since we moved away. She didn't do good with moving, and now she lives somewhere else. I have also lost some other pets to death.

We all pray for you, I'm sure the cat had a wonderful life and enjoyed every moment with you.

Very sorry for your loss EV. I have had several cats in my lifetime and it was very difficult to see them go. The unconditional love from an animal is something very special that will always be remembered. Take care and remember the good times that you had together over the years.
