Looking through a batch of LMC that my wife and I had stashed away in an old cookie container, I came across this LMC that looks like it has noticeable hub doubling on the "97" and possibly "4" of the date (notching at bottom of the diagonal where it meets the left end of the crossbar). "LIBERTY" looks like it has extra thickness, too, but I am extremely unfamiliar with LMC in general. "W" of IGWT" might have something showing at the top but again, not knowing much about LMC, I defer to the local experts here.

I've always wondered why they left that die up. It is not a doubled die, it is just a large date for that year. All the large dates look like that. (especially in the earlier die states)

What device do you use to get such tight close ups of date, etc?

Combinations are used. Some will take images through a magnifying glass, loupe, or even a microscope. Depends on the level of seriousness of getting images.

I use a rudimentary pluggable USB scope. I realized last night after posting that I left one of my light sources off (shadow seen in top two images...whoops).

I'm still working through around a hundred of RPMs and DDOs to post, just need time. Always happy to showcase some interesting coins, AND my total ignorance on the subject of LMC. HA!
