Not sure which is which, big, small, or inverted S? New to all this, appreciate the help and learning of information from you all. I have looked at a few pics but tough to tell the difference for me.

Multiple different mintmark styles were used on the Mercury dimes in the 1940s.

Here's a list: http://www.varietyvista.com/06%20Me...20Styles.htm

First pic top, second pic top and bottom right like MMS-002 (Small S)
First pic bottom left looks like MMS-006 (Ball Serif)
First pic bottom right and second pic bottom left looks like MMS-005 (Straight Serifs)

The rare ones are the 1928 Large S, 1941 Trumpet Tail S, 1943 Trumpet Tail S, the 1945 Ball Serif S (especially the inverted one), and the 1945 Micro S.

It is apparent that as time goes by, numerous things are found in this series all the time. A book on Mercury dimes written some time ago is now very outdated due to so many small variations being found all the time. Yes there are many different mint marks on those dimes and so far not to much has been done to valuate them.
