that is not the overdate - and the mark visible between the 4 and 2 is indeed post mint damage.

You are going to have to explain this comment - your photos do not show such a line.

Not the overdate. Use the search box, upper left of page for examples of a true overdate.

I agree that it is just a well-placed hit. You can see where this linear mark is below the surface of the coin, but the ridges of "smushed" metal on both sides are slightly raised.

This is an example I have in my collection.
This is one of the errors I find easy to see.

It is not a 41/42 it's a 42/41. A 41 over 42 would mean the Mint took 1942 dime and made it into a 1941. And yes, s4sqatch that coin of yours belongs in my Album. Is it FSB?

Sasquatch - This is a great coin, but please start your own thread. Replies to your coin are getting mixed up with replies to the OP's coin.

They didn't take a 42 dime and make it a 41, nor did they take a 41 dime and make it into a 42. The mint was making bot 1941 dies and 1942 dies at the same time and a die was hubbed with a both a 41 and a 42 dated hub. Which hub came first? Who knows. The 42 hub was sunk deeper which makes it more likely to be the second one, but it is no guarantee.
