Hey all,

I have a slightly defective quarter here and am wondering if its worth anything? I discovered this by trying to put it in the coin slot of a washing machine and had trouble getting it in due to its oversized rim.

The quarter is a year 2000 South Carolina commerative. The rim around the corner is a bit oversized, smooth, and discolored (brassy). I'm not aware of any other defects?

Could this be of any value? thanks!

If you've got a scanner some good scans would work too

Sounds like another coin with a beaten edge.

Coin operated washing machine tells a lot. If this was change from the laundromat, chances are this coin rolled around in a washer or dryer for a while causing the edge to roll up.

This was NOT change I got from a laundromat, but rather change I was trying to insert into the slot at my apartments washing machine. Not only is the rim messed up, but it also feels a little lighter than usual. At first I thought maybe it was a slug or a counterfeit, but than wondered who would actually spened their time counterfeiting quarters? Anyways, it might be a couple of weeks before I get a pic.

If the defect was caused by the minting process, then it would qualify as a 'mint error' and be worth a premium; probably just a few dollars. If the defect was caused after it left the Mint, then it is a damaged quarter and worth 25 cents.

Some mint errors are worth quite a bit, but most are not. When you get a chance to take a picture or a scan, a better evaluation can be given.
