Hello everyone. I want to start this by saying what a great forum this is. I know the nonstop newbie questions get old, but you guys take it in stride and are very helpful. That is a rare thing these days! Some brief background info. I started with coins as a silver stacker. It did not take long before I started to appreciate the numismatic value as much as the intrinsic value of some of the items I acquired, and I especially love the Morgan dollars. I bought a few collections for the silver coins and suddenly had a large number of non silver coins to contend with. I am starting to enjoy collecting those also, but I have WAY too many coins now and I want to begin thinning them out. I also want to move away from large numbers of raw coins and move toward a smaller number of coins that are slabbed and graded. To start with, I have 5 folders of LWC. They are not all completely full (wouldn't that be cool?!), but they are 75% full or more. The coins are all circulated and range between G up to an AU here and there. I cherry picked a few and put them in flips, but I am not sure what to do with the rest. I might keep one of these, but I definitely don't need 5 sets, and what I do keep will probably go into flips for better organization, and so I can view them easier on both sides. I am looking for recommendations on how to sell some of these. Do I put the entire folder on ebay and sell them as a lot? Do I break them up and try to sell them individually? Should some (most?) of these go back to the bank? Is there another option I am not considering? Here are some photos of 2 of the folders to give an idea of the contents. If anyone wants close up photos of any specific coins, please let me know and I can provide them. Any guidance you guys can offer is greatly appreciated!

I always recommend just storing them for future you or a family member down the road, but if you want to sell them, you can. Now, the album and coins are not worth very much, but the older wheat cents can be a dime each or so. You can go ahead and post what you have on ebay as is, but make sure the images and description are accurate to what you have, as not everything is there. Selling each and every coin individually would be harder than just selling them as is in the album. See a local coin dealer and see what they can offer you if you want.

Certainly a nice group. Without semi-key or key dates in acceptable condition, the rest are only worth a few cents each. The work of selling them on ebay probably wouldn't gain much reward. Keep them. They are worth more as a reminder of your enjoyment collecting them as opposed to cash value. Or give them to kids as a present. With the cost of toys, you'll save a bundle

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I will take the best example of each coin and build one set that is as complete as possible from what I have. I will probably put the rest in one combined lot and start the bidding at 5 cents per coin. If no one bites, I can alway sell them to the bank.

chrisof4, that's exactly what I did and what I would recommend to you: find the best examples of each date & mint & start your own album. you've got an excellent start for an album of avg circulated wheaties. find the album of your liking & start filling it. save, swap or sell the rest (i saved all of mine). go after those remaining when you're able. the thrill of the hunt! have fun, above all else, and share your progress with us. I've got about 24 more wheaties to go before my avg circ LWC album is full, 09-58.

Would you like to trade a set for (1) professionally tanned raccoon pelt?

@philjam, that is a bargain! Not sure what I would do with it, but I might take you up on that. Let me finish organizing my keeper set. I don't think that will take long as I have done most of the work already. I just need to make one more pass and fill in any holes I can.

I'd keep one set of the best coins if you wish and then sell the rest as sets in the albums on ebay. It's not worth breaking them up and selling individually as no one will want to pay shipping on a coin worth a few cents. You can probably get a good idea of what sets are going for by looking at Sold sets on ebay.

Selling them as is in the albums will eliminate buyers who want to see both sides of the coins. But, it might not be worth your time to take them all out and photograph them all.

I think you should change to Albums and make several sets and in order of quality. Set 1 the best and getting lesser with each set. Some day you could have all completed and they would look great then.

One warning, those folders will ruin your coins unless they are very well stored. Even then, I've found they seem to retain moisture and can cause the backs of the coins to corrode.
