Has a dark brown coating on it and it's hard to read the date.

To evaluate your problem with that coin . Sometimes just an acetone soak will remove whatever coating is on the coin without damaging it . This is not considered cleaning in any way .

to CCF. Post photos before cleaning. 100% pure acetone,not standard nail polish remover should do no harm.

As a rule cleaning is bad, but 100% acetone, not nail polish remover, should be ok.

Remember SHINY is NOT, to coin collectors, what makes a coin valuable. Original mint luster is not capable of being reproduced, and trying to do so will ruin whatever value the coin has.

Removing even microscopic layers of metal (rubbing, polishing, dipping metal affecting chemicals) will ruin the value. Acetone will NOT remove metal and therefore is safe.

Give us some pics and we can much better help you know exactly what to do and save help so you don't accidently ruin the coin while trying to make it "better."
