Hey guys,

Looking to purchase some nickels from 1922 / 1927 / 1928 / 1929 / 1930 / 1931 / 1932 / 1933 / 1934 / 1935 / 1936.

There are a total of 40 rolls the dealer has and hes looking at 35 cent a piece. Their condition varies from vg-f all circulated.

Is this a good price?

Thanks for your opinions!

For that kind of quantity as a bulk purchase in that condition range, I would think he should be able to do much better than that. I'd offer him $0.20/each.

What are you planning to do with them? Your name suggests you buy/sell. It would probably be a pretty long sales cycle to clear out this inventory, especially at the VG-F level. If you can sell about 180 of them at $1 each you will break even, but not sure how long it would take to that. I am assuming this is a relatively slow moving product.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your opinions. I am not sure if I will even buy them. I know my name suggests like I am in this hobby for buying / selling but I will be honest. I am addicted to buying not interested in selling at all. I just want to make sure that any buys I make they are worth collecting.

Those are merely culls - I am sure the dealer would love to unload them.

For 5-cent nickel coins from George VI - my advice is to learn how to grade them and understand their nuances with respect to weak strikes verses eye appeal. You'll fare a lot better off buying EF to low MS coins that are sometimes undergraded in that series...

Great for seller; bad for buyer.
At virtually any price.
If it was me I would not make the purchase.

There's a roll of 40 on ebay now for $9.95 +$4.25 shipping, at your door for 35.5 cent each. There are many rolls of those stored away by many dealers for many years because they can't sell them either. I've sold low value coins on ebay for 19 years; I would run away from those. With luck, you MAY sell one for a dollar, but I have listed F and VF ones at 50 cents, with $1.25 shipping on any coin, and had combined shipping of 15 cents per added lot, and still it took forever to get rid of the 20 or so I had.

You may want to take a chance with the 1932 roll; seems there's a valuable variety.
