383138500248I turned down 6 consecutive rolls for $100/roll. IMO it looks like he's shill bidding against himself with a $5.00 start, a bid with (1) feedback at $984 and a bid with (0) feedback at $985 to . bring the bid total up. HMM

The little bit of research I am willing to do say it's because it is numbered as one of the last 20,000 rolls. One sold for $6,600 though If I had to guess why I'd say It was just because the mint sold out. http://www.coinnews.net/2013/03/05/...ed-for-6600/Edit: I've revised my opinion, the one that sold for 6k was literally the last roll of pennies ever.

Yeah you're right Gincoin. Realized if hes shill bidding and ends up winning, he obviously wont pay. Something silly going on

This is one of the reasons why I haven't bought any coins in years. People want crazy silly money for their coins...and yet if you had the same item for sale you would not get anything for it.

Of course there.is no way to know what order the last 1 mil were minted in, but the one that sold for 6.6k was in the wrapper labeled 20000/20000 and since all of the last million were put into these to sell, I'm going to consider it part of the process. Sold for 750ish something funky must have happened

If I remember correctly, none of the pennies in these rolls could be the last penny. The mint released a video of the striking of the last batch of pennies and there was a giant tub that contained about a million pennies in it. The last batch of coins minted dropped into a small bowl (maybe 50-100 coins) and were kept aside. I assume they went to dignitaries, archives, coin museum etc...

There is a video of the Minster of Finance, with a cup and the press slowed way down catching the last few production pennies and ultimately the last one was given to the BOC where it should be. These rolls were just smart marketing by the RCM, although people still pay around 100 bucks or so

@joecoin: I still consider myself a collector. I look at many sources like Heritage Auctions and ebay, and if something catches my fancy and I think it is a reasonable price, I'll buy it. I see lots of material I like; I just consider all of it overpriced. Add into the fact that if I were to sell any purchases I would expect not to get anywhere near what I paid.
