Most of the bullion coins are approximately the same size. I have American Eagles and Chinese Pandas in 40mm airtites and I can guarantee you the Kookaburra, as well as, the Kangaroo will fit them as well. If nothing else take a tape measure and measure them to see how close they are. That should give you the answer you seek. I would also suggest you take a long hard look at the silver Kangaroo from Australia as I am amazed at their value on the secondary market. I would suggest getting them in the year of issue because after that they are very pricey! Quite honestly they put the Eagles to shame on the secondary market! A great number of foreign coins are by far better investments due to tremendous collector value than our eagle. We can thank our mint for trying to control the secondary market in this country as other countries lower mintages to guarantee a sell out our mint raises mintages to destroy secondary market values. With the world wide market available 24 hours a day, thanks to the internet, foreign coins are attracting much more attention than they did just a few years ago!

thank you for your help didn't want to take it out of the 2x2 if it didn't fit. I would wait and go buy one but since it fit that is great.
Rest in Peace

Hmmm...

All my Kookaburras came encapsulated. I just assumed they all came from the mint already in their plastic capsules.

Yes, they did! Most nations place capsules or airtites on before leaving the mint. The U.S. will be placing the new gold buffalo's in airtites this summer before shipping them as pure gold can't take a beating AT ALL. Quite honestly just a scrape of a finger nail will scratch pure gold!

One of our more knowledgable Aussie friends will give you a better answer, but as I look at my Kookaburras I notice the first one I have is 1990. I think that was the first year. Then, I read somewhere that the series is finished with the 2006 coin.

I need a few more to complete my set.

I know they only made the square 1/2 ounce Kookaburra for 4 years (2002 thru 2005) as I have a set and a half!!! Whoooooopie! A whole set of something! They were to end after 2005 so I must assume the Kookaburra is a dead bird now? Wish I had a full set of the ounce coins but not as badly as I do the Kangaroo silvers!

Terry, Do the Kangaroos cost about the same as the Kookaburras?

Do you know what years the one ounce silver Kangaroos have been minted?

Best place to buy them? Bigfella? Downies? Somewhere else?

Lim118 has provided the information you seek. The Kangaroo is a much more sought after coin than the Kookaburra and its prices on the secondary market reflect that! My wife just bought all but the 2005 from Downies and even in the package purchase they still averaged around $30 each! The design changes every year and quite frankly I am just sick that I haven't been buying them. I won't be missing any more new releases. The Chinese Panda is an absolutely beautiful piece of silver and I have been buying those since 2002. I wanted to go back and pick up the other issues but was SHOCKED at their value! Decided to just continue with the series from 2002 and leave it at that. Also Canada started a new 1/2 ounce series this year with the Wolf and it is my understanding they too will be changing the design each year! I intend to keep that going as well! So many coins, so little time, coin poor and proud of it!
Rest in Peace

Lim and Terry:

Thanks to both of you for the information.

I will start collecting the Kangaroos, but it will be a slow process due to funding. Retired. Fixed income, don't you know.
