I think even if they could limit everyone to 1 per household (and they did do that) and nobody was buying for anyone, you still have people buying them up low in bulk off ebay and the reselling them with a markup as long as the market will bear it and we'd still be in the same exact situation. The only way around this is high or unlimited mintage and then nobody would want it or it would be cheap and sell at or below mint issue price so the only real way around this is never creating a low mintage rarity, so that everyone can have as many as they want and there is no aftermarket value to it. I for one like the idea that my collecting isn't always a total loss and a money pit of junk nobody wants and may have some value above what I paid for it. But that's me. I guess I'm in the minority lol.

Quote:For those who got or will be getting their coin slabbed, can you please provide some insight on why you went with a particular TPG. Just curious really what factored into your decision. I went with NGC, primarily, because my membership hadn't expired yet, it's a bit cheaper compared to PCGS and I really like the cable car label that's available for this coin. Had I not had a membership I think I still would have gone with NGC based on the two latter reasons. Ditto here. 95% of the coins I submit go to NGC. I did the Cable Car label also (mailed to NGC yesterday) I will add another personal reason. I mentioned milk spotting of ASE's in another thread and this hit home with me this year. Even though 90-95% of my ASE's are NGC slabbed I have a collection 10 times greater (or more) of spotted PCGS ASE's...maybe I'm just an outlier but I will NOT increase my odds by sending to PCGS...TOTALLY an opinion but real in my case. Another reason is that PCGS and NGC ERP's are selling for equal prices so there is little downside...and...if PCGS grades less 70's then that's another plus for NGC Both companies are great...go with your gut. I went with my personal experience

I really want to keep this coin. It's still in the unopened box. But I'm starting to get to the coin collecting state of "heavy sighs from the wife whenever I excitedly say 'I just ordered another coin.'".

MarkCoin, I to have mine in the unopened original box. I don't know why as I have a full set of American Silver Eagles except the 1995 W and to sell this one would break up the set.

Quote: And honestly, the presentation is much better with PCGS for the COA encapsulation.
NGC offers the soft capsule used for the GSA soft packs whereas PCGS offers the regular 'hard' oversize holder. I hadn't even thought about how the COA would be encapsulated until you mentioned this. I just assumed it would be placed in some sort of baseball card style holder. Anyone have pics of the two differing styles?

Quote: Thanks. I just e-mailed PCGS with my inquiry. Call on Monday. General emails can take days if not weeks for a response, especially considering there's going to be four and a half days of unopened unanswered ones to go through after having the half week off for Thanksgiving. Quote: There is also quite a bit of anecdotal evidence that NGC holdered silver eagles are slower to develop the dreaded milk spots There is absolutely no actual evidence to support this. The vast majority of silver eagles will never spot, especially now that they have improved on it from when it was at it's peak a few years ago. If you get a bad box for grading a lot of them will spot, if you get a good box basically none or none will spot. There is no holder that stops or slows down milk spots which are a production issue.

Quote: Why the US Mint haven't said sold out yet. I think some people still have not received their coin yet, especially those who ordered on day 2, 3 or 4. I got mine on day 2 and just got it on Wednesday. According to mint policy I have 7 days to return from the date I receive it. I imagine the mint is waiting for everyone to get theirs, plus 7 days, before officially changing the status to "sold out".

Mine just got to NGC's post office, probably will get delivered Monday. Anyone know what the backlog is NGC opening packages?
Edit: And of course they update saying they tried to make a delivery attempt. Well of course no luck when they're closed on weekends.

They're supposed to prioritize "expedited" though right? I splurged on it with the hopes it'd start making it's way back to me before the mad rush of packages start getting sent by everyone hoping to get their deliveries before Christmas.

I thought items getting delivered to PO boxes just got dropped off at the corresponding post office and that was considered "delivered". Am I missing something?
