Hello Everyone,

I have been comparing this coin to the resources that were given to me and believe that I may have found the 1970D DDO-001. But it may be the FS-102 as it looks similar to that too. I was told that the coin is rare and should have it slabbed to confirm which would help in selling it if I went that route, or just to have as my first DDO find in my collection.

But I do not want to waste any money with grading if it is not and so would appreciate some help on whether it is even a DDO and what would you guys do next?

Welcome to CCF! Who told you that this coin is rare and should be slabbed? You have come to the right place to learn. It would be most helpful to magnify the areas you think are doubled. As well as a magnified reverse, so we can better render an opinion.

Again, welcome!

Thank you guys so much for the responses. I appreciate it very much. Yes, I should have been more thorough as to what I am seeing so you could offer some guidance or critique on my issue.

So I uploaded a couple more images and actually added images from other websites of verified 1970D-DD0-001 that I was comparing it to to help see why I thought this was a Doubled Die.

It should be more obvious so I did not add any arrows as they seemed to get in the way but let me know if I should. I was really looking at the seriffs of "G" in God and "7" of date and also the splitting or those black lines within the numbers/letters. Is that splitting?

Thank you guys again. This might explain the dozens of exceedingly rare and unbelievably valuable doubled died rarities that I have found in just my first couple weeks of searching.

It's not a DDO. It's a normal coin. If you look, there are no splits in the serifs, just slight widening of the devises from die wear.

It is not helpful to cut and paste from other websites. it is hard to tell what's what. Stick to showing us YOUR coin. I agree with other assessments, no doubling. The good news is it's worth 25 cents! I'd take it back to your original "expert" to see if they're interested in buying the coin from you.
Good luck, and never give up the search!

I'm not seeing any notching either.
Look at the crossbar of the 7, bottom right corner. I don't see that notch on your coin.

There should also be die markers on your coin that should match ones on the site you are comparing yours to. That is the most accurate way to confirm a variety with sometimes small nuances in the doubling.

Thank you guys for the tips and direction it really helped out. Jim, I can see that now and completley forgot about that as a diagnostic tool when differentiating true doubled dies. Pete, that is another pretty basic tool to use about the notching that I did not use. I think I was focusing more on what the similarities were when I should look at it objectivity. And my coin actually did match some of the die markers, but not all which confused me some more. Maybe I will make a checklist or guide to follow when diagnosing them would be helpful.

Haa Merclover the coin dealer never actually saw the coin I just brought it up and wasnt planning on selling it, but how about .10 cents? No definitely will keep it and use it as a resource. Thanks again everyone.
