We are seeing more dates coming out especially 1921 that are so good they can fool many experts in the field. I have not purchased a Morgan dollar in many years without first confirming what die pair ( VAM) I'm looking at...Knowledge is key... Report this Post to the Staff

sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21786 Posts	Posted 09/19/2019 04:01 am Doesn't say if this particular piece is pressure cast or die struck. Cast coins shrink slightly after casting. Fake die struck OK in this regard. I would suspect this fake s die struck, due to the luster, but luster it doesn't appear radial in the picture. Seems to be made from 90%Ag, 10%cu, to achieve weight, but XRF would confirm. Melted coinage silver easy to obtain. Doesn't show a picture of the edge. westcoin Pillar of the Community United States 9792 Posts	Posted 09/20/2019 5:35 pm The new counterfeiters in China now have the exact same mint presses used by the worlds top mints, years ago they had an original scrap press from the Denver Mint bought from the USA in the 1920's it was found in storage by the then "Top counterfeiter" according to the interview he gave to the coin press back in 2008. His stuff was fairly crude, but he obviously got better, now according to Beth Deishler in her latest Coin World podcast interview, he or other new counterfeiters have vastly improved their techniques (obviously from what we are seeing today) and their equipment.
