I think it's a die break, awesome that it goes rim to rim. Looks like something else is going on in the center as well.

Looks like an unlisted bisecting rim to rim die crack. A fantastic error coin!
Nope, just looked it up. It is a split die, an even better error coin listed as:

I thank you all for such quick response, and identification! tropicalbats, Wondering why you say the coin SD-5C-1973D-02R on cuds-on-coins.com is an even better error coin. Is it because it is in better condition? I am a newbie, and trying to learn. I found this sorting through my pocket change...glad I look at both sides of a coin before moving on! My first find was in a corn field in Illinois detasseling corn 40 odd years ago. 1845 large cent! Hence my handle... Gave it to my dad who had the bug. Thanks again!

Quote: n cuds-on-coins.com is an even better error coin He was saying your coin is not a die crack but a die split and I have to agree, that is way cooler than a Die crack. That reference number was so you could see some similar errors.

to CCF. That is a way above average find, congrats. You may want to post it in the grading section and then put it in an Air-Tite (brand name) plastic holder. John1

John1 advised me to post it in the grading section, but I can't figure out how. Is it because I'm a newbie, and am not allowed to yet, or is it because I'm a newbie and just can't figure it out?

From this post-> click they hyperlinked US Modern Variety and Error that is at the top of the page/or bottom. Then, when you are one the v&e main page click the link that reads Us Modern coins(it's right were V&E was on this one) near the top of the US coins page are two stickytopics/subforums varieties and Errors is one the other is the Grading one. Once you click on it you can make a new post in the grading subforums with the new topic button.

Gincoin43, Thank you. Your tutorial was helpful, and I was able to post my nickel on "grading". I am having trouble navigating though this site! I can't even find a way to respond to individual people who comment on my posts, so I just post with their handle, and hope they see it, like this. Cheers!

Awesome find and congratulations! Make sure it goes into a 2x2 for protection. Also make sure to properly label it.
Errers and Varietys.
