Is-This-A-Woody-Quarter?
Is-This-A-Woody-Quarter?

Found this in an OBW shotgun roll. It weighs exactly 0.20 ounces, so I think it is not missing a clad layer. Could it be from the end of a blank roll? I am not an error collector, so please provide any information you can. Thanks!
Rest in Peace

No,this is most unlikely to be a woody.

If the metal is consistently mixed prior to the rolling process it may have streaks when it is flattened into the sheets that the planchet is cut from.

If you try a dip in pure acetone, no rubbing, followed by a good pure water rinse, followed by air drying it is likely that those streaks will disappear.

Thanks moxking! Any thoughts on the copper looking color and the weight? This one has a lot going on!

Need the weight in grams. Adjust your scale to grams. Looks like a copper color from the image and the devices are weak. So I'm hoping for a lower weight like a missing clad?

Looking around 4 grams. And the copper side is darker in hand. That sounds like missing clad. Even if it's not a woody, it looks pleasant. Not going to do anything with the markings.

Should have said more than 4, but less than 5-my scale is not exactly precise.

Then it sounds like a missing clad. The normal weight if 5.67 grams. Nice find.

Hmm, 0.2 oz = 5.67 g. I'm thinking environmental/chemical exposure rather than a missing clad layer. However, the weight deserves more investigation (with one that is more precise).
