This Turkish 10 KURUS came from my late Grandpa's Littleton coin collection. My question is this, is the word KURUS suppose to be one word or two? Everything I have seen shows it to be one word but this coin has a dot between the letters U and R making it appear to be two words. My guess on this is it has to be a well placed die dent.

Hmm, I don't see this dot on the numista example:

John1 and Spence, I looked at Numista and every site I could find with currency from Turkey and have found nothing to show the dot between the U and R.

'KURUS'

I happened to find this from the online Oxford dictionary. Extremely odd that this coin has the same dot between the U and R. I still think it may be a die dent but could be wrong as the dot is semmetrical and appears to be in an exact location.

It's just a fortuitously placed die chip. "Kurus" is one word, the Turkish version of the older Arabic coin denomination, the "qirsh". The dot in the dictionary is there as a pronunciation guide; Turkish does not have such punctuation in everyday use.

The litle curly bit attached to the base of the S, however, is supposed to be there, telling you that this "S" is meant to be pronounced "Sh" rather than a plain "S". It is considered a separate letter in the Turkish alphabet.
