It's just a fortuitously placed die chip. "Kurus" is one word, the Turkish version of the older Arabic coin denomination, the "qirsh". The dot in the dictionary is there as a pronunciation guide; Turkish does not have such punctuation in everyday use.
The litle curly bit attached to the base of the S, however, is supposed to be there, telling you that this "S" is meant to be pronounced "Sh" rather than a plain "S". It is considered a separate letter in the Turkish alphabet.
