Hi, I'm curious what causes this finish?

Looks like it was heated. Some may call it an acid dipped cent, but on a coin dipped in acid, the weight, thickness and width is affected. So I'm thinking that the weight will be normal.

Disagreeing with Coop is a sure sign I'm wrong, but it does look more like an acid bath.

Thanks. I don't have a proper scale at home, so taking it to work to weigh it. I'll have the weight this evening. I should probably pick up a good scale.

Either way, heat or acid, it's just a PMD cent..but with knowing the weight it will make a good cent to learn from

Sandblasting might do it too.

So day 1, I took my penny to work and forgot to weigh it. Day 2, I forgot my penny. As soon as I find a non-absent-minded day, I'll post the weight.
Thanks for the pointers. Our work scales are precise to 0.0001g. For home I'll be sure to get a 0.001g scale.

Like my mom used to make me do....Tie a string around your finger to help you remember...dental floss will do,just don't tie it too tight..Or we'll be calling you 4-finger JWJ...
