Help With 1980 Nickel Cut Off Along The Edge. Damage Or Something Else?

This is my first time posting here and a novice at this.

My mom found this nickel that is cut off along the edge. She says its worth something but I am not so sure. I posted 5 images. 2 are zoomed in back and front. Two are zoomed out. There's one that is on it's side. I apologize for the quality. If you could give me pointers on that, it would be helpful.

The cut looks smooth so it looks like it was in that shape when it was minted. However, it could've been damaged afterwards and just worn out over the years. Not sure what could that be though. Any thoughts?

to CCF. Looks like a curved clipped planchet and to me looks legit.Wait for a pro to comment. Congrats on a nice find. Photos are great.Check ebay sold values for an idea on current value.

@k88, I think that you mother has good intuition and welcome to CCF. This looks like a legit clipped planchet to me--the words LIBERTY and AMERICA are smeared. Also, there is a little broadening of the rim opposite to the clip which is the Blakesley Effect. Here is a link with more info:

The closeups were the clincher for me. From the full coin images I was thinking it wasn't a curved clip. But the closeups show me what I need to see. (The weakness of the devices in the affected areas)
