If your talking/showing the letters "pushing" out towards the rim...It's caused by an ageing die..DDD
On the Virginia quarter thats called bag marks..reeding from another 25¢ hit it

I see doubling on both the obverse and reverse of coin. There is a variety assigned to having this type error on obverse, but can't locate any information for reverse doubling.. Any idea if there are reverse varietiess associated with the Bicentennial quarter?

The 2 DDO listings I know of for the 1976 D are fairly obvious and I am pretty sure your coin is neither one. Varietyvista.com has some pictures of both if you want to look. The probably also have pictures of some Reverse doubled dies |
