That's what the holder said? Is it correct? I know nothing about foreign coins. Unknown yellow metal. Approximate worth? About the size of US quarter. Thanks.

It is indeed the French king Louis XIV, called "Louis the Great" on this piece, but it's not a coin. Nor is it a trade token, nor a medal. It's a jeton, or counting token, used on an abacus-like contrivance to aid in currency calculations.

The planchet seems to have some defects. Worth about $20.

Louis XIV (The Sun King) at this age would be circa 1670 (not 1770)

He became king at age of 5 in 1643 - to 1715
His image on the jeton appears to be around 20 or so.
