I am going through a brand new box of 2019 D Lincoln cents that I picked up a few months ago. Finally had the time to get to it. Currently three rolls in. Can anyone tell me what is going on with this 9? To me, it doesn't look like any others. I don't believe it is circulation flattening, because, again, this a a box of brand new, uncirculated. This is also the second coin in the roll with the 9 looking like this. I would love to say what I believe it is, but I'm always wrong. Thoughts? Thanks.

All of the 9's are thick. That's normal. It's part of the design. You need to look for the double ear DDO. It's DDO-001 on VV. Go to varietyvista.com to see it.

Errers, I respectfully disagree with you on this one. I will post a side by side of other coins in the roll; the 9's do not look the same. If 2 are normal, the rest of the box is not.. or vise-versa.

I think it's circulation flattening or a slightly Grease Filled Die. I'm leaning towards the ladder because the I in Liberty looks filled aswell.

@jon30, these coins have not been circulated. I picked up a brand new box of 2019's when they first came out a few months ago. Just now opening it.

It may have a slight amount of grease filling part of the die, making it appear to be larger, but the upper part of the device is reduced. The lower part of the device is wider near the base of that device. When you look at the two images above this post, the darker area on the lower image is showing the outline of the base of that device. On the Struck Through Grease device, the light hits the wider part of the device, making it appear as different.

It's absolutely disgusting that these uncirculated in the box cents are already showing spots everywhere and zinc rot in the near future.
Who do we have to kiss to get rid of these crummy coins?

Quit making them. They still serve the purpose for what they had in mind. We can always go back to the last time change was missing from circulation:

Every coin in this box has those nasty carbon spots, it's terrible!

I thought the spots were caused by a bad/incomplete drying process after the washing of the blanks...water stains vs carbon spots or are they one in the same....?

The very small brown spots are usually sneeze droplets.

Two complete boxes of coins with these droplets seems like it would be from some rinsing that has dried. (Unless condensation has formed on the warm/hot surface after striking.)
