1863 Indian Head Penny "no Shield" On Reverse?

Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 10/08/2019 4:32 pm The 1864 Indian Head cent was the year that the "L" was added to the ribbon on the obverse. That may be the coin the collector was thinking of. The L initial stands for Longacre, or James Barton Longacre to be precise, the coins designer. ExoGuy Pillar of the Community United States 4415 Posts	Posted 10/09/2019 09:55 am to the CCF Lacking a Red Book or other reliable source for the comparison of U.S. coins, one can simply google "1863 Indian cent" and look at the pics. By doing so, it becomes evident that the shield was present in 1863. ebay is another good resource for comparing coins, prices, grades, etc. Report this Post to the Staff
