Hi all,
How do you break a coin out of a slab without damaging the coin and not cutting yourself on the sharp plastic?

Depends on the company. There's a bunch of different methods, wrapping paper towels around it and hitting the edges with a hammer or something of that nature works pretty good. Just wear safety glasses.
ANACS slabs you and usually pull the back off if you get into the seem where the back is connected. You can also flex it and it'll snap in two just below the label then pull the coin part open.
Others will use everything from bandsaws to cutters to vices

Wrap in a towel, and slowly crush in a vise.

1. Use a Butane torch and melt the slab. 2. Take to top of tall building and drop to a concrete walkway. 3. Give it to a teenager and say it can't be opened. 4. Send to me and stop worrying about it. 5. Use a saber saw or similar and cut off the ends. Slab will then just open.

Before I came one here I was just going to melt it in the oven but decided I should ask for advice. I'll know better next time and not buy a slabbed coin? these people and there slabbed coins.
