It is not a doubled die, as doubled dies leaving a raised area, not a flat area: Enlarge this image and note all the doubled ears are raised, showing a spread on the ear areas inside or outside of the ears. Or the die was slightly polished on the edge of the taper of the ear. Anything removed off the die, will show as a raised area on the coins struck with that die. Often seen on edges of deeper devices. (Columns on the reverse of Memorials, and other larger devices) Report this Post to the Staff
