I collect low-mid circulated grades of 5 Marks but I am not an expert at all, I don't have a grading guide, so I try to look at graded examples when I get a chance. It seems to me, though, that this example is really over graded. I would put it more in the VF 20 range, if that. What are your opinions?

Typical soft strike for this issue, so even uncirculated pieces look to be circulated on the high points.

But I'd be at 35 rather than 20 or 40.

Soft strike DOES NOT affect numerical grade, although it certainly affects eye appeal and value.

I know this is not and answer to your question (I defer to @moxking's experience on that), but why anyone would have paid to have it graded is a mystery.
Unless I am missing something, I see coins of similar quality (and some better) selling for under $50.

I don't know if it is overgradet or not. But thats not important at all. This coin has almost no value besides the silver. It is not hard to find much better examples for a rather low price :-)

I'm with Mox on this one being closer to VF-30 or VF-35.
