OK, I saw one of my partners over this last week and was showing him my penny collection we he said he had 2 rolls of pennies un open in his save since 1947. He let me go through them, and nothing special and nothing better then what I had. But there was one coin that caught my eye. This 1940 coin with a crack in it. It was not in circulation for more then 7 years. Is this damage or a Die Crack?

Thanks

I think it's post-mint because on the edge you can clearly see metal pushed beyond the rim of the coin. If there was damage to the planchet prior to the strike, or something that happened during the strike, the collar would keep things to the dimension of the coin. Just my inexpert take.

Im no expert but I cant tell you how many times I tried to cut a penny in half!

Looks like mine did after I was unsuccessful.
But even I knew as a child my dad would kick my behind if I cut a wheat.
If he knew of varieties I'm sure he would of everytime I cut ANY PENNY..lol..SHHHHH.What he dont know wont hurt right?

Looks like someone held the end of a nail, and gave it a whack.

and, I think it might have been in circulation more than 7 years, by the looks of the wear.
