Hi, everyone.
Just got curious with this mint set showing milky spots and scratches all over the coin. So, I decided to break the set to see what is underneath.

Strong die scratches. They are on the fields. The fields are on the outside part of the die. The devices are deeper inside the die. So a die scratch, will leave a raised area on the fields that can flow behind the devices. The cello on the hold is probably doing more harm at this point. It is altering the surface of the coin.

The line through the top of the Y might be a die crack.

Thanks, Condor. I will check for the die crack. Kindly see what was on top of the 'W' of 'WE.' Have you seen that in some of your coins?

Looks like that area was polished down. Note the distortion of the initials? The weakness of the 'WE' area.
