Howdy,
I've been a long time lurker finally setup this profile to ask a few questions about some Washington quarters.

1. FL, CT and CA State Quarters I think are black beauties (still have doubts about the FL mite be environmental damage.

2 Is this post mint Damage some is sever while the coins are still in great shape for example the 65-66-67 Washington.

3 image 3 same question

4 image four is my favorite of the damage coins I have I never seen anything like it but I can't imagine how it happened.

to CCD. 1- environmental damage. 2- PMD. 3- PMD. 4- can we see a pic of the reverse? Looks like PMD though.

I agree with John1 - all PMD. As to a black beauty - here is an example of one that the forum, after discussion in a couple of threads, helped me verify in my mind it is an actual Black Beauty mint error:
http://goccf.com/t/288744&whichpage=8#2715180

Note a key thing to ID a BB is the dark coloring also has original mint luster to it. The color is not a coating. All three of the coins in your first picture have areas on the high spots where the coloring has been worn off to reveal a lighter color underneath.

Kind of the best of the worst coins in circulation.

The metal detector finds start out dark brown, and then turn black and start showing the tops of the devices. I don't think Black beauties change colors. They are darken through the coin more.

First off thank you for the help even though it totally made me feel dumb for pulling these over the past year lol. The pics were help as well as the bb description being a little watered down for easier comprehension.

I would like to ask how we know its PMD I get like quite a few are but the dents on the rim pushing in seemed more of damage while it was created? I assumed this cause its they are relatively clean vs a penny that was under a car.

99% of incuse marks on a mint/circulated coins are PSD (Post-Strike-Damaged) There is examples of mint errors, but the incuse marks were caused during the strike process. But more of the time, people are messing with/altering the coins to create what looks like a mint error. When they realize if looks nothing like a mint error, what do they do with the coin? Spend it.

Sometimes they alter them by squeezing them with two boards and hit them with a hammer, use a vise on them, use a soft die to alter them, throw them into a parking lot and they get run over. So many ways to ruin a coin.
