Scroll down to see seller's comment. When the current bid was about $157, I messaged him in regard to the comment. I told him that bidders probably think that the coin is steel, and that he should close the auction if it really is. He does offer returns, so I told him that someone might be willing to take a chance. His response was kind of muddled, but he indicated that the tone might be from his flash.

Evidently, two people think it's a steel cent.

Whichever one wins it will send it back.

And PayPal keeps the fee now on returns. If it hasn't already started it starts very soon

I noticed that the seller is rigoama_76 but in the item specifics box the dealer is listed as Dave's Collectible Coins. I wonder if Mr. Enders knows his name is associated with this item.
I've bought from Dave's Collectible Coins many times and I'm sure he wouldn't go along with such foolishness.

So this guy will have to pay $60 if it gets returned, for a coin worth no more than $1.
Rest in Peace

If the coin is indeed copper do you think the seller would take the $2,000 plus from the highest bidder or not ? Could there be shill bidding going on after the seller saw a $100 bid on a $3 coin and decided to go along with it ? Now he has to make a big decision , take the money and run or inform the highest bidder he can't take that kind of money for a coin worth under $5.

Maybe this policy will prompt sellers to not overhype a coin or even misrepresent it. Sort of a slap on the wrist if they aren't diligent or honest (think Etsy here for misrepresented coins) This seller doesn't seem to be doing that because he is putting bidders on notice... if they read the description after placing a bid. As I understand ebay, once a bid has been placed, the description cannot be changed, only canceled.

But if he has to pay the fee won't he, and others who hear about it, be more diligent about canceling an auction the next time something like this happens.

Thanks for sharing this auction. It all adds up to an inexpensive education.... for us!

I have sold on ebay. The description can be edited or added to, I have done so at times.

The description clearly states the composition is copper.
Lets see if the seller cancels the sale after the auction ends.
I have had that done to me when I won a 1oz krugerrand for $300.

If you look at the sellers previous auctions, he sells mainly low value coins. I suspect he intentionally played with the color balance on the photos to remove the copper color on several of the photos to give the impression it's not what it is. Then he listed the dealer as Dave Collectable Coins, which is a legit dealer on ebay to give it credibility
He shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.

I doubt very seriously that the Buyer will ever pay for this win.

Like I figured would happen, the "winner" didn't pay (or the transaction was canceled!)

The Seller has relisted the coin .... "1944 Lincoln Wheat cent Nice Penny US Coin, Chance to buy the $2000 coin, LOL".

The original "silvery" pictures that caused all the problems are gone.

At least he has a sense of humor!
