I am in at MS-63 weak strike. Buffalo nickels are notorious for weak strikes and even more so at the branch mints.

Late middle die state obverse paired with early middle die state reverse, a bit of a soft strike.

When the photos are adjusted to reduce light and enhance color, there is evident disruption of luster on the Indian;s cheek, eyebrow, hair above the braid, and where the upper part of the second feather is blending into the hair. there is also disruption of the luster on the buffalo's hump, hindquarter, and front shoulder. The most evident wear spots are the upper second feather and buffalo's hindquarter, though the wear is minimal. The milk spots on the reverse could affect eye appeal a bit.

The softer strike makes the wear appear worse than it is. I see the coin as a classic slider, very likely AU-58.

@fortcollins: that's really interesting information about die states and strike quality. Where can I learn more about these things? What is it you are seeing that shows you die states? Is that what determines quality of strike? Thanks
